In horticultural farms of 17 municipal districts of the Tambov region, work has begun on the formative pruning of fruit trees.
According to the Regional Department of Agriculture, pruning has already been carried out on an area of 617 hectares of orchards. In total, gardeners plan to cultivate more than 3,000 hectares of orchards this spring. The largest pruning areas are planned in Pervomaisky, Petrovsky, Michurinsky, Tambovsky and Zherdevsky districts.
Pruning helps to increase the yield of a tree by removing dry and weak branches. Due to pruning, the crown of fruit trees is formed and thinned out.
There are more than 8.5 thousand hectares of orchards in the Tambov region, of which more than 5 thousand are fruit-bearing.
In 2021, over 400 hectares of orchards were planted, mostly of an intensive type.
Active work on laying fruit orchards has been going on in the Tambov region for several years. This year it will also continue.
