Tambov region aims to increase potato harvest

According to the operational information of the Department of Agriculture of the Tambov region, more than 2.6 thousand tons of potatoes of early varieties have been harvested in the region's farms. The yield was fixed at 405 centners per hectare, which is almost twice as high as last year's figures (219 centners per hectare). This year, farmers have planted potatoes on an area of ​​3.4 thousand hectares, which is almost the same as last year.

According to experts, this year the Tambov region expects a good harvest of "second bread", exceeding last year's figures. Recall that in 2020, 106 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested in the agricultural enterprises of the region, in total in all categories of farms - 329 thousand tons of crops.

Specialists plan to achieve a high yield through the use of modern technologies. Thus, in the Tambov region, the area of ​​irrigated potato fields is increasing annually, the coverage of which is planned to be increased to 100 percent this year. Experts note that hydromelioration helps to increase soil fertility.

Over the past 5 years, almost 8 thousand hectares of irrigated land have been introduced in the region. Vegetables, potatoes, corn, soybeans, SUGAR beets are grown on these areas.

According to the results of this year, the plant growers of the region plan to put into operation almost 2,000 hectares of reclaimed land.
