This was announced at a planning meeting at the republic's Ministry of Agriculture, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture of Chuvashia Sergey Artamonov.
"According to monitoring data, the condition of winter crops is good. After the recent rains and thaw, the snow cover in the fields has compacted and ranges from 3 to 24 cm. Within the snow cover, there is a suspended, porous ice crust 0.1-2 cm thick, and the freezing depth of the arable layer ranges from 2 to 15 cm," said Sergey Pavlov, head of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoztsentr" in the Republic.
In total, farmers in Chuvashia have planted winter crops on an area of 80,000 hectares. It is noted that the crops are generally in good or satisfactory condition (94.3%), while 5.7% are in poor condition.
The healthiest plants were found in the Ibresinsky, Kanashsky, Kozlovsky, Mariinsko-Posadsky, Morgaushsky, Poretsky, Urmarsky, Cheboksary, Shemurshinsky, and Yantikovsky districts. The lowest percentage was found in the Shumerlinsky, Vurnarsky, and Alatyrsky districts.
