FGBI ARRIAH Specialists Completed Refresher Courses on Biosafety and Biosecurity at the Diagnostic Laboratory at the USDA

From August 23 to 27, 2021, specialists from the laboratory and diagnostic center of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “ARRIAH” subordinate to ROSSELKHOZNADZOR took part in a seminar by the USDA Animal and Plant HEALTH Inspection Service (APHIS USDA) on how to organize a high-security laboratory. Specialists from the usa, countries of Central and Western Europe and South Africa also took part in the seminar.

During the training the following issues were considered:
- Planning of biosecured laboratories;
- Biological safety and biosecurity of the laboratory;
- Organization of the workflow in the laboratories of the biosecurity level BSL-3;
- Assessment and management of risks in the work of the laboratory;
- Handling of pathogenic biological agents, their transportation, storage and disposal;
- Personnel protection measures when working with pathogenic biological agents;
- Interaction with state institutions.

At the end of the seminar, an exchange of experience took place between the invited experts at a round table, where the participants discussed national aspects of the implementation of biosafety procedures.
At the end of the course, certificates of advanced training were obtained. The latest knowledge and practical skills acquired by FGBI “ARRIAH” specialists will be applied in their work in order to constantly improve the level of biosafety and biological security of the institution.
