In North Ossetia , winter grain crops have been sown on an area of 52,000 hectares.
Traditionally, wheat accounts for the majority of winter crops, with 30,000 hectares sown. Winter barley occupies 6,300 hectares, and winter rapeseed 15,400 hectares. This year, the area under winter triticale has increased to 325 hectares, a 62% increase compared to last year's 200 hectares.
The main winter crop area is in the Mozdok district, covering 42,300 hectares. It's worth noting that this year, for the first time in the Mozdok district, a farmer decided to conduct an experiment, planting a 60-hectare field of winter peas. This project will assess the potential for growing this crop in local climate conditions and determine its resilience to winter weather. If the experiment is successful, it will be an important step in increasing the production of high-protein forage crops in the region.
Agriculture Minister Alan Kusrayev emphasized that the winter crop sowing campaign in the region was successful and on time. He also added that the good winter crop harvest creates new export opportunities. Products grown in North Ossetia are renowned for their high quality and competitiveness in foreign markets. Expanding export channels allows local producers not only to increase sales but also to implement modern technologies that improve production efficiency.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania is actively involved in the federal project "Export of Agricultural Products," which ensures the achievement of the goals and indicators of the national project "International Cooperation and Export."
The sowing campaign was completed within the optimal agronomic timeframe for the republic. According to the Hydrometeorological Center, agrometeorological conditions for winter crops are generally satisfactory throughout the region.
