Rural workers of the Saratov region started mowing grasses for fodder

Now the farms and farmers of the region are faced with the task of harvesting enough fodder for successful wintering of livestock.
“This year, 165,000 hectares have been allocated for fodder crops in the region, of which the largest areas - 90,000 hectares - are allocated for perennial grasses,” says Roman Kovalsky, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Government, Minister of Agriculture of the region.
In addition to the areas of sown grasses, there are 107 thousand hectares of hayfields in the region, which are used for harvesting hay by the population, and 2 million 197 thousand hectares of pastures for grazing livestock from May to October.
At present, the region's farms are mowing grass, and 1,000 hectares have been mowed.
“Weather conditions and the formed herbage on perennial grasses and hayfields, as well as organized work, make it possible to provide a guaranteed supply of roughage for livestock of agricultural enterprises, as well as for private households,” Roman Kovalsky emphasizes.
In total, for the upcoming wintering, for the full supply of feed for farm animals in agricultural enterprises and peasant farms, 250 thousand tons of hay, 267 thousand tons of straw, 48 thousand tons of haylage and 225 thousand tons of silage are required.
To date, fodder equipment is prepared by 90-93%. The farms have 190 forage harvesters, 1200 mowers and 1000 hay balers.
