Since the beginning of the year, the region has harvested 303,900 tons of vegetables. This figure places the region first in the Volga Federal District, according to Roman Kovalsky, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Government and Minister of Agriculture
. Specifically, 265,400 tons of open-field vegetables have been harvested across all farm categories. The Engels Municipal District, rightfully called the "vegetable garden" of the Saratov Region, leads the way. It accounts for almost a third of the regional vegetable production. Vegetable farming is also developing in the Marx, Sovetsky, Krasnokutsky, and Rivne districts.
The greenhouse vegetable harvest currently stands at 38,500 tons, including 23,000 tons of cucumbers, 15,300 tons of tomatoes, and 200 tons of other vegetables. The Gagarinsky Municipal District has traditionally been the leader in this segment.
"It's worth noting that regional vegetable growing has consistently maintained its leadership among the regions of the Volga Federal District over the past five years. This is largely due to the various government support measures available to our vegetable growers and the effective use of agricultural technologies," added Roman Kovalsky.
