The issues of developing a scientific base for conducting research in the field of agriculture were discussed today at a meeting by the Governor of the Irkutsk region Igor Kobzev, representatives of scientific organizations and agricultural enterprises.
The head of the region emphasized that there is a good scientific base in the Irkutsk region for conducting research in the field of agriculture.
The leading scientific center in the Angara region is the Irkutsk State Agrarian University. A. A. Yezhevsky, which has scientific personnel of all specialties. The university can conduct research in all areas of the agricultural sector. Research in the field of crop production is also carried out by the Irkutsk Research Institute of Agriculture.
According to the Minister of Agriculture of the region Ilya Sumarokov, at present the Siberian Institute of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is engaged in the introduction of a new crop for our region - soybean, which has never been grown commercially in our region before. The institute also conducts research on breeding new varieties of winter rye and is engaged in the adaptation of horticultural crops to the conditions of Eastern Siberia.
“For effective farming, we must constantly improve production technologies, and this requires a high-quality scientific base. At the same time, research topics should be determined in accordance with the requests of manufacturers. It is also necessary to take into account the climatic features of our region. All these issues are becoming especially relevant in the new economic conditions,” the Governor emphasized.
In total, over the past seven years, 33 research projects on scientific and technical support for the development of agriculture have been financed from the budget of the Irkutsk Region under various state programs for a total amount of more than 65 million rubles. Scientific organizations and large agricultural enterprises of the region participate in the creation of innovations.
“Such meetings allow us to quickly coordinate the work of scientists and manufacturers. For a long time, there were many foreign goods on the market, so it was assumed that food security was ensured. Now we understand that we need to restructure our work. The most important thing is that we have the necessary scientific base and the interest of the state,” said Kirill Golokhvast, director of the Siberian Federal Scientific Center for Agrobiotechnologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
