PIONERPRODUKT.by finishes publishing videos from the AgroExpedition “Agriculture of the Republic of Dagestan”. In this video we will talk with a history teacher from the village of Chirkey, Gadzhi Abakarovich, about the village of Chirkey, about the past and the future.
The village of Old Chirkey was founded in 1501 by two people from the current Shamil region of Dagestan, Musa and Khizri. In 1991, residents celebrated the village's millennium. This leads to a contradiction between the founding date recorded in the books and the true age. The problem arose of finding the historical founding date.
Scientists and archaeologists played a big role in solving the problem, who explored the village during the construction of the Chirkey hydroelectric power station. The village of Old Chirkey was fenced by two hills, on which traces of human habitation thousands of years ago were found. Currently, the exhibits found during the excavations are on display at the museum in the city of Makhachkala.
After the construction of the Chirkey hydroelectric power station, the village of Old Chirkey was flooded as a result of the formation of a reservoir. Therefore, the current village is located at the foot of the Salatau ridge, and was popularly called New Chirkey.
The Chirkey hydroelectric power station project was carried out by scientists from Baku and Leningrad. And according to its characteristics and the technical solutions found, it is a unique hydraulic structure with a reservoir volume of 1.350 million cubic meters of water.
Despite the traditions and rich history of Chirkey, the elders decided to sacrifice the village for the sake of electrification of all of Dagestan. It was a difficult and very tragic decision for the residents. The site for the construction of a new village was chosen by the elders, as they knew the surrounding area well.
The construction of the Chirkey hydroelectric power station was declared an All-Union shock construction project, in which workers and specialists from all over the country took part. The construction did not stop for a second. The work went on both day and night, in the cold in winter and in the heat in summer. Now the Chirkey hydroelectric power station is not only the pride of Dagestan and those residents who sacrificed their village with a thousand-year history for the sake of all residents of Dagestan, but also the pride of the entire country, of all the people who made this unique and ambitious project a reality.
Over the past few years, the tourist flow to Dagestan has increased many times, and the residents of Dagestan are very happy with tourists. This is not only additional income for residents, but also the traditions of the famous Caucasian hospitality. Nevertheless, the specifics of the culture and traditions of Dagestan presuppose certain rules of conduct for guests in the Republic, which tourists must observe and respect.
In order to get acquainted with the rich history, culture, traditions and hospitality of Dagestan, to see the sights of mountainous and lowland Dagestan, Gadzhi Abakarovich provides his own excursions and tours, which you can sign up for using the contacts in the video description.
