At the Alakol Asyl Zhylkysy enterprise, two directions in horse breeding are being implemented. The first is the breeding and maintenance of sports factory horses that participate in long and short distance competitions. These horses are represented primarily by English racers; there are also pacers. The second direction, which we will watch, is represented by horses of the meat and dairy direction. They are used for horse riding, playing kokpar, as well as for milk and meat. This direction is represented by the following breeds: Mugolzharskaya, toads and a cross with the Novo-Altaiskaya.
In the fall of 2022, about 1,000 head of horses were delivered to the feedlot for meat sales. By the way, half had already been sold, including to the breeding stock. The average age of fattening horses was 2.5 years and weight 370-450 kg. The maximum amount of time that horses are in the feedlot is 70-80 days, and during this time they are gradually realized.
The diet of fattening horses includes grains: barley 40%, wheat 40%, as well as 10% each of cake and corn. In general, each horse accounts for 6 kg. feed per day. The feed is distributed using a feed dispenser. It is also necessary to have plenty of hay. Feed is distributed twice a day: in the morning and after 16:00. The average weight gain in fattening horses is 1-1.2 kg. per day and the yield of meat for sale is 56%.
Horse meat is sold by Alakol Asyl Zhylkysy both in carcasses (half carcasses) and live weight. For the slaughter of horses, there is a slaughterhouse with a capacity of 80 heads per day.
