Field diary: fruit and vegetable harvest continues on the Don

In the Rostov region, work continues on harvesting various crops. The Don vegetable farms are entering the final stage.

“Despite the fact that harvesting began a little later on the Don due to weather conditions, today more than 80% of the area under potatoes has been harvested, the gross harvest has amounted to more than 140,000 tons,” said Minister of Agriculture and Food Konstantin Rachalovsky. - I am glad that this year its yield exceeds last year's figures by 13 centners per hectare and amounted to 290 centners per hectare. it is worth noting that the quality of the Don potatoes is also quite high, and it is in demand both within the region and beyond.”

The situation is similar with the harvest of open field vegetables. To date, vegetable crops have been harvested from 75% of the area, the gross harvest has exceeded 160,000 tons with a yield of 347.9 centners per hectare, which is 14 centners per hectare more than last year.

“We expect the vegetable harvest to be at the level of last year's indicators. In addition, harvesting of fruit crops is in full swing on the Don. According to operational information, more than 2,000 tons of pome and stone fruits, as well as berry crops have already been harvested on the Don, ”the HEAD of the Don Ministry of Agriculture and Food specified.
