Farmers continue to sow melons and gourds in Stavropol fields. The total area this year for sweet watermelons and melons will be more than 600 hectares, to date, the sowing plan has been completed by 74% of the planned areas.
The main areas of melons and gourds are located in the Stepnovsky, Neftekumsky, Arzgirsky and Izobilnensky districts.
Among the leaders is the Ponomarevo farm from the Grachevsky District, where up to 600 tons of watermelons and melons are harvested annually during the season. About 38 varieties of watermelons are grown on the farm, in addition, there are also unique varieties.
“During our work, we have tested about six hundred varieties of watermelons and almost four hundred varieties of melons. And they chose the best varieties in the world for their own cultivation. Every year we grow about 30 varieties of watermelon: traditional, marbled, black-skinned, seedless, yellow-skinned, orange-skinned, yellow-skinned, large-fruited, micro watermelons, portioned watermelons, triangular, square. There are about 10 varieties of melons in production every year,” said farmer Roman Ponomarev.
Also, the leaders in the cultivation of gourds in the region are engaged in K (F) X Cherkashin, OOO SHP Pobeda, K (F) X Ovchinnikov, K (F) X Evdokimov.
“Watermelons and melons of Stavropol melon growers are annually evaluated not only by residents of the region, but also by other regions. In recent years, the largest watermelons in RUSSIA have been grown precisely in Stavropol, ”said Elena Tambovtseva, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory.
In his annual Address, Governor Vladimir Vladimirov emphasized that the region consistently continues its course towards the diversification of agricultural production.
