pionerprodukt.by continues to publish videos from the AgroExpedition “ Agriculture of the Republic of Dagestan ”. In this video we will show the peach garden of the oldest gardener of the village of Chirkey - Surkhai Pirasulmagomedovich Gadzhiev and talk about the features of growing peaches.
While visiting the Chirkey market, we met Surkhai Pirasulmagomedovich Gadzhiev, who has been growing peaches for more than 40 years. In addition to the traditional Gadzhi peaches for the region, Surkhay Pirasulmagomedovich was the first in Chirkei to begin growing fig peaches. The wholesale cost of which, at the time of filming, was 80 rubles per kilogram. The garden area is only 4 hectares.
Fig peach has a rich taste, it is very sweet and has a small pit. But unfortunately, fig peaches are poorly stored, so they must be stored strictly in refrigerators. Of the fruit trees in this area, peaches and apricots grow best; the climate and soil are not suitable for apple and pear trees.
The fig peach planting pattern is 5x5 meters, and the trees begin to bear fruit at 5-6 years. Peach season begins in mid-July.
Peaches are sold to wholesalers from Dagestan and neighboring republics, who come to the garden on their own.
The basic rule when forming a peach tree is to comply with the conditions for ventilation of the crown, while the foliage must have a large enough green mass so that the tree can feed the fruits. It is also important for cleaning that the tree does not exceed the height of a person with a raised hand.
The peach orchard is watered using a drip irrigation system, which has been used in this orchard for 20-25 years. The nearby Chirkey reservoir creates additional humidity, which has a beneficial effect on the peach harvest. On average, the peach harvest is 20 tons per hectare.
The soil of the garden is pebble, quite poor, so you have to apply a large amount of manure, fortunately Surkhay Pirasulmagomedovich has his own cattle, which we will show in the next video.
The main difficulty in growing and marketing fig peaches is the low shelf life of the fruit. Peaches are harvested almost on the day of sale, or a day earlier, if picked in advance the fruit will be slightly bitter.
