The figures were announced by the regional Government during a meeting between Acting Governor Georgy Filimonov and agricultural producers.
First Deputy Governor Yuri Umerenko noted that, according to preliminary data, farms of all categories, including private farms, harvested 192.2 thousand tons of potatoes in 2023. Almost half of the harvest was produced in agricultural enterprises and peasant farms, where 92.3 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested, which is 18.7 thousand tons more than last year. The trend of reducing potato production on private farms continues, but at the same time there is an increase in the volume of potato cultivation on farms.
“In all categories of farms, potato yield per hectare of plantings amounted to 202.4 centners - 7.6% more than in 2022. In agricultural enterprises and farms – 285 c/ha. The leaders in yield are Veliky Ustyug (403.4 c/ha), Tarnog (370 c/ha), Vologda (311 c/ha) districts,” said First Deputy Governor Yuri Umerenko. He also noted that the increase in yield is largely facilitated by compliance with cultivation technology and the use of high-quality planting material. In 2023, elite and original potato varieties were planted on an area of 799.2 hectares, which is 24.4% of the total potato planting area. The area of elite and original plantings increased by 77.2 hectares compared to last year.
Potato growers actively cooperate on seed production issues with breeding centers: FAT-AGRO LLC of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, with the Federal Potato Research Center named after A.G. Lorch, as well as the Republican Unitary Enterprise “Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Potato and Horticulture.”
