What varieties of cereals, legumes and oilseeds will give a guaranteed harvest in the southern forest-steppe regions of the Chelyabinsk region? Variety tests of registered and new varieties of these crops, conducted by the Chelyabinsk Research Institute of Agriculture, were presented on the fields of the Troitskoye Federal State Budgetary Institution during a practical seminar organized by the regional Ministry of Agriculture.
The seminar is held for managers, chief agronomists of agricultural enterprises and farms, so that they can evaluate experimental crops of different varieties of durum and soft wheat in the field, choose the most promising ones for obtaining high yields on their farms. Moreover, due to the development of competition in the production of pasta, the demand for durum wheat of good quality is growing every year. This was emphasized in his speech by the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the region Alexander Zavalishchin.
The Troitskoye farm has been cooperating with the Chelyabinsk Research Institute of Agriculture for more than 10 years, being an experimental site for testing new varieties and hybrids of agricultural crops. Such cooperation also helps in the production activities of the economy: in the choice of varieties, crops and technologies. Sergey Malyshev, DIRECTOR of the enterprise, spoke about this:
— Every year the sowing brings new surprises. This year, under the weather conditions, the entire structure of crops was rebuilt. Last year sunflower was sown on 1200 hectares, this year - 3300 hectares, the forage area had to be expanded at the expense of cereals. In general, the area of spring sowing amounted to 13 thousand hectares. Now we have prepared 60% of the fodder and we see that we will lay the fodder base. Sunflower will be the insurance crop. Due to its processing and production of butter, we will pass this year without losses, we will save the number of cows. More than 70 varieties of durum wheat only are represented on the experimental site. Here you can see how the varieties behaved under the conditions of this year, and which ones will give a guaranteed harvest.
Yury Pryadun, Director of the Chelyabinsk Research Institute of Agriculture, emphasized the importance of the information obtained as a result of variety trials for production:
- Here are the main originators of domestic selection, including the developments of our institute. Varieties in different natural and climatic zones behave differently. This site is closer to the conditions of the southern regions of the region. Varieties that have performed well in dry conditions are clearly visible, but to draw a final conclusion, you need to look at the quality of the grain after harvest. In early September, we will be cleaning these fields. After that, our institute will carry out a technological assessment of grain quality, susceptibility to diseases. A detailed analysis through the Ministry of Agriculture of the Chelyabinsk region will be provided to agricultural producers.
