The start of chemical weeding in the early stages is predicted in the Stavropol Territory
In 2022, the specialists of the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Rosselkhozcenter in the Stavropol Territory carried out phytosanitary monitoring of harmful plant objects on an area of 16,664 thousand hectares.
In view of favorable weather conditions in the autumn period, a large number of cereal weeds (foxtail) and wintering dicotyledonous weeds (poppy-self-seed, yarutka, walkers, etc.) were noted on winter crops.
In this regard, in the Stavropol Territory in 2023, it is predicted that chemical weeding will begin at an early date.
Weeds are a constant component of agroecosystems. With a high number, they reduce the yield and its quality. In some crops, yield losses from weeds can be 50% or more.
Weeds are competitors of cultivated plants for moisture and nutrients. In addition, weeds are intermediate or main hosts for pathogens of many diseases and pests of agricultural plants. Infestation of crops makes it difficult to perform many types of field work, harvesting and tillage. Therefore, weed control is a technological and economic necessity in the cultivation of crops.
Once a decision has been made on the feasibility of carrying out protective measures against weeds, it is necessary to decide on the method to be used. The main methods are agrotechnical, biological and chemical.
Herbicides are widely used to control weeds. The chemical method is not an alternative to other methods. It is used in combination with agrotechnical methods and only when previous methods have not reduced the number of weeds below the threshold of harmfulness.
Specialists of the Stavropol Russian Agricultural Center recommend that when using herbicides, farmers pay special attention to the regulations and, first of all, the timing of their application, as well as consumption rates, weed development phases, preparation of herbicide tank mixtures and temperature during the application period.
