Fish-breeding season 2021 is coming to an end in Yamal

The penultimate release of this season took place on the basis of the Sobsky fish hatchery - about 1.1 million muksun fry weighing at least 1.5 grams set off for free swimming.

Muksun cultivation took place in accordance with the plan and in compliance with all technological parameters. The readiness for the release of fry was determined by a commission, which included representatives of regional authorities, specialists from the Federal Agency for Fisheries and state research centers.

Whitefish juveniles were released directly from the shops of the fish-breeding enterprise. First, it was placed in a storage tank, and then, carefully, so as not to damage it when it fell into the water, it was sent along the fish pipeline to Sob. Now the river will become the place of residence of the fry, and with the onset of freeze-up, they will go for wintering in the Gulf of Ob. In the natural environment, the fish can reach a size of over 40 cm and a weight of about 1.5 kg. The development process from a fry to an adult will take about 6 - 8 years.

It should be noted that the release of juveniles into the river is already the final stage of the huge work carried out by the fish farmers of the enterprise. Specialists of the Sobsky fish hatchery keep the eggs under special conditions for several months, and then they rear the fry, providing them with constant care.

“For six years in a row, we continue to systematically restore populations of valuable fish species. During this time, tremendous work has been carried out, which allows us to count on the fact that we will be able to increase the population of whitefish species. This year, our efforts were aimed at restoring the muksun. The released juveniles are active and viable, adapts well to natural conditions," said Alexander Gorlatov, First Deputy DIRECTOR of the Sobsky fish hatchery.
