The 20th anniversary regional raw MILK quality competition, "Best Milk – 2025," was held at the Sheksninsky Creamery. Twenty-four farms and enterprises from 16 municipalities submitted their samples.
"The Vologda Region is renowned for its high-quality dairy products. Over the past few years, the region's farms have sold 99.4% of their raw milk as premium and first-class milk, annually winning Grand Prix and gold medals at prestigious Russian and international competitions and exhibitions. Such competitions help enhance the competitiveness of our producers, create even more opportunities for their growth, and confirm that Vologda milk is truly delicious, natural, and healthy," said Vologda Region Governor Georgy Filimonov.
Following the competition, milk from the Romashevsky Agricultural Production Cooperative in the Tarnogsky District was named the region's tastiest milk. The best farm milk based on the highest comprehensive indicator was produced by the farm of Eduard Vasilyevich Demichev from the Cherepovets District.
Winners were also determined based on the overall assessment of the results in three nominations. They were:
• Agricultural artel ( KOLKHOZ ) "Rassvet" from the Belozersky District - among agricultural enterprises with an average productivity per cow of up to 7,500 kilograms of milk;
• Kolkhoz "Myaksinsky" from the Cherepovets District - among enterprises with an average productivity per cow of 7,501-10,000 kilograms of milk;
• OOO "Zazerkalye" from the Gryazovetsky District - among enterprises with an average productivity per cow over 10,001 kilograms of milk.
The competition committee assessed the taste, smell, and color of the samples, as well as somatic cell count and the physicochemical properties of the products, including temperature, fat and protein content, density, acidity, purity, freezing point, and the presence of antibiotics .
To stimulate and support milk production in 2025, the Vologda Oblast budget has allocated over 1.9 billion rubles, representing 42% of the total support for agricultural enterprises. This allows farmers to steadily increase production to meet the objectives of the national project "Technological Support for Food Security," initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
