Breeding bulls are bred in the Stavropol Territory to improve the gene pool of cattle

The indicators in dairy and beef cattle breeding in the Stavropol Territory directly depend on the maintenance of the cattle gene pool. Complete genetics still plays a leading role in obtaining productive offspring, as well as quality food.

The state strongly supports agricultural producers engaged in their own production, processing and sale of bull semen, annually providing subsidies.

“The budget of the region in 2021 provides 6.6 million rubles for the payment of subsidies for the volumes of bull semen sold. The funds will be used to reimburse part of the costs of feed, electricity, fuel, zootechnical and veterinary services, as well as the wages of agricultural producers. This support will increase the volume of sales of bio-products, as well as improve the genetic potential of bred cattle in the territory of the region,” said Alexei Krisan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory.

In the region, one of the enterprises that provides for the needs of MEAT and dairy farming in this direction is JSC "Stavropolskoe" for breeding work.

it serves 287 farms in the Stavropol Territory and 20 farms outside it, and in each of them monitors the quality of the resulting offspring, annually updating and replenishing the gene pool with new highly productive bull breeds of domestic and foreign selection.

“Our organization has been breeding and keeping sires for over 40 years. This is a rather painstaking work, since at first we carefully study the information on the bulls. First of all, we look at the outstanding ancestors in the male line, since the improvement of the bred livestock is carried out through them. And in the formation of such a herd, we always come to the aid of our farmers and offer them exactly the genetics that will be most effective for solving the problems of a particular farm,” said Ivan Kopylov, General DIRECTOR of Stavropolskoye JSC for breeding work.

Currently, the company has 32 breeding bulls of meat and dairy productivity. In the laboratories available at the enterprise, their seed goes through a complete cycle of assembly: from the collection of biomaterial to the sale of finished products. Specialists control the quality during packaging, labeling, and storage of the seed. The company has a seed bank, where about 1 million doses are stored.

In addition, JSC Stavropolskoye plans to create the first breeding center in RUSSIA for rams, since domestic breeding livestock is a very important industry not only for the region, but for the country as a whole, completely dependent on the livestock gene pool.
