A large batch of future laying hens has arrived in the island region.
88 thousand chickens made their way in 7 hours by charter flight from Yekaterinburg from the poultry plant of JSC "PPZ Sverdlovsky". The necessary temperature conditions were maintained on a special cargo aircraft, thanks to which the safety of chickens was 100%, which is far from always the case. A batch of chicks is intended for updating the livestock at Ostrovnaya Poultry Farm JSC.
The imported chickens belong to two egg-laying crosses "Super Nick" and "Coral".
Cross "Super Nick" has been used at the factory since 2017 and has shown itself well in both egg production and disease resistance. This type of poultry is bred specifically for the production of eggs. Laying hens of the Coral breed adapt well to a new habitat, have a calm character and resistance to inflammatory diseases.
“Immediately when placed in special rooms, we will give the chickens everything they need, including anti-stress agents,” said Konstantin Kiselev, deputy chief veterinarian of the island poultry farm. “The most important thing is to provide the young animals with special high-energy feed. It takes about a week to adapt, while the body maintains a temperature of 34-35 degrees Celsius.”
The chicks will spend three months in the young stock housing. Then the grown-up laying hens will go to the place of permanent residence - to the production buildings. Such a bird will reach the peak of egg production in 5-6 months, while the egg productivity will be more than 300 pieces per year.
By the end of the year, the entire egg-laying population of the poultry farm will be renewed by 50%. This will make it possible to ensure an increase in domestic production by 7 million pieces as early as next year, which will practically cover the needs of Sakhalin and Kuril residents in eggs - according to estimates, the self-sufficiency rate will be more than 95%.
It is worth noting that this is the fourth batch of chickens received by the poultry farm. Another party is planned before the end of the year.
