With cows of the Jersey breed, famous for its high fat content of MILK, an experiment is being carried out on zoning in the difficult geographical and climatic conditions of Armenia. At the time of filming, the farm contained 42 dairy cows of this breed.
And we remind you that the milk of Jersey cows is widely used in cheese making and other processed products, so it has a higher cost.
According to the farm's specialists, the last winter was best tolerated by the Fleckwee cows, then the Holstein cows, and slightly worse than the Jersey cows. At the same time, Holsteins give more milk than Jerseys. However, Jerseys have an advantage due to the fat content of milk, which is stable at 5.8-6.0%, while for Holsteins the maximum limit is 3.9%.
Experts note that milk is mainly processed from Fleckwi cows, while experiments are being carried out with Jersey and Holstein cows.
At the time of filming, Fleckwi cows already had young animals adapted to the conditions of Armenia, so the farm can put them up for sale for further breeding by farmers.
Sheeping is started at the age of 7-8 months, when the Fleckwy heifers have gained about 400 kg. weight. But the last word in this matter always remains with the veterinarian.
Only artificial insemination is carried out on the farm, as it is the most profitable from a business point of view. The seed is purchased from a licensed genetic center in Holland.
The farm is located near the popular Jermuk mineral water deposit, so the cows are given mineral-rich water to drink.
All milking equipment for cows on the farm is supplied by the well-known company DeLaval. The equipment was also installed by the specialists of the official dealer of this company. For the smooth operation of the milking line on the farm, a complete set of spare parts was purchased.
The average daily milk yield on the farm is about 5 tons of milk. At the same time, experiments on the effect of various conditions on milk yield, with the aim of increasing it, do not stop. Negotiations are also underway to increase the milking capacity of the farm.
