A meeting was held at the regional Ministry of Agriculture on the issue of protecting and preserving the unique nature of the European North, including improving the ecological state of water bodies and restoring fish stocks in the rivers of the Komi Republic.

The meeting was chaired by Igor Bulatov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Komi.

According to Denis Sharonov, Minister of Agriculture and Consumer Market of the region, the existing capacities in the republic are not enough to compensate for the damage caused to aquatic biological resources. Now the maximum volume of juvenile fish recommended for release in the Komi Republic is more than 320 million pieces per year. At the same time, no more than 1.5 - 3 million whitefish and grayling fry are released annually, which does not bring an effect in terms of increasing commercial stocks.

To restore the fish resources of the rivers, the construction of a fish hatchery is required. It will help prevent the risks of excess death of fish seed, will allow growing juvenile fish in a shorter time and reduce the cost of fish products.

In addition, without the protection of aquatic biological resources and their habitat, it is impossible to fully restore the population of commercial fish species.

As a result of the meeting, it was proposed to create an advisory body under the Government of the Komi Republic on environmental issues, develop a roadmap for the implementation of Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 176 regarding the creation of a regional environmental fund, and other areas of activity in order to preserve biological diversity and natural ecosystems.

The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Komi Republic supported the initiative to create an environmental fund. At the same time, subsoil users voiced their readiness to join the advisory body under the regional Government. And the creation of an environmental fund, according to representatives of the oil and gas industry, will make it possible to direct payments to their intended purpose.
