
Located in Krasnodar, the National Grain Center named after P.P. Lukyanenko will strengthen the breeding and seed production work on the demanded agriculture. This was stated by the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Veniamin Kondratiev.
“Krasnodar Territory is the largest Russian producer of many canned vegetables. Annually, the region's plants produce about 200 million cans of sweet corn. At the same time, imported seeds are mainly used for growing crops today. After the imposition of sanctions, our farmers had difficulties. Now this issue has been resolved, planting material is available in full, but in the near future the region should completely switch to domestic seeds,” said Veniamin Kondratiev.
The head of the region stressed that for this it is necessary to use all the possibilities of scientific centers, the achievements of Kuban scientists.

“We will work out the issues of improving the quality of sweet corn seeds and increasing their production volumes. The Scientific Center for Grain has been engaged in the selection and seed production of this crop for several years. Already, the institution has three varieties of sweet corn, which are zoned according to the natural and climatic conditions of the Krasnodar Territory,” said Andrey Korobka.
On behalf of the governor, special attention is paid to import substitution in seed production in the Kuban. Thanks to the joint work of the region, agrarians and scientists from the National Grain Center and the All-Russian Research Institute of Rice, today the Kuban completely covers its own demand for seeds of winter and spring wheat, rice, and 90% of soybeans.
