On December 26 at 16:45 a video was released on our channel : Angus cage keeping. Where are the stalls? Don't need feeders? Watering cows in winter. Grazing at minus 40. PionerProdukt .by continues to publish videos from the AgroExpedition “Agriculture of Kazakhstan”. In this video we will tell you how Aberdeen Angus cattle are kept in the winter in the steppes without any premises or sheds, and we will also talk about winter watering. Artesian wells are used to water cattle on winter pastures. Water from the well is supplied by pumps to the water tower, and from there it flows by gravity through pipes to the drinking bowls. The pipes are located below the freezing point of the soil, thanks to which the water does not freeze even at temperatures down to -40 degrees. To protect animals from the wind, high mound-walls are built from manure on the farm, which are located at different angles to each other and go in different directions. Such wind protection is built taking into account the fact that the wind in the steppe can blow from any direction, and accordingly, animals can hide from the wind, no matter where it blows. The hay is delivered to the pasture in rolls using a tractor and distributed directly onto the snow. The cows take away some of the hay for bedding. Sometimes the hay is crushed through a hay crusher and distributed to the cows using a feed dispenser. There are separate pens for keeping cows and calves on the pasture. The pens have cages for calves. To feed the calves, feed is poured there, but they are designed in such a way that cows cannot even put their heads in there. This allows the calves to eat the full amount of feed. Calves can also hide in cages from bad weather. For ease of movement around the territory, the cages are equipped with runners and fastenings. Some cages are equipped with canopies under which calving takes place in the autumn. This method of winter maintenance of breeding stock of Aberdeen Angus cattle is very effective in the harsh conditions of the steppes of Kazakhstan. Thanks to this, the animals adapt well, survive the winter well and bear healthy offspring.
