The Ministry of Agriculture of the Kaliningrad Region summed up the results of the 2021 harvesting campaign.
The historical maximum was reached in the harvesting of oilseeds. Their gross harvest amounted to 160 thousand tons in weight after completion. This is 5% higher than the record harvest for the region in 2020.
Grain in the region threshed 705 thousand tons in weight after completion. And although the gross grain harvest turned out to be slightly lower than a year earlier, this is also one of the best indicators in the entire history of the region. “The resulting volume of grain allows us to fully meet the intraregional demand for livestock, seeds, cereals and flour in the amount of 513 thousand tons and sell the surplus balance outside the region,” said Natalya Shevtsova, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Kaliningrad Region, Minister of Agriculture.
It should be noted that the territory of the region belongs to the zone of risky farming, and 2021 turned out to be a difficult year for crop growers in almost all subjects of the Russian Federation, when weather “swings” negatively affected the yield of a number of crops and the course of the harvesting campaign. So, in the Kaliningrad region, harvesting took place in difficult conditions: at its peak - in August - there were only 11 fine days out of 31.
Potatoes in agricultural organizations and farms were harvested in the amount of 59.1 thousand tons. The gross harvest of vegetables in the open field amounted to 31.6 thousand tons, which is almost 20% more than a year earlier.
The region has achieved full self-sufficiency in potatoes, self-sufficiency in the main group of vegetables produced in the “borscht set” (cabbage, carrots, beets) is 80%.
In Kaliningrad, products directly from the manufacturer are sold at a weekend fair near the central square of the city. Currently, the issue of organizing a Christmas fair in the pre-New Year period is being worked out. The sale of farm products is also organized on trading floors in municipalities.
