According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kaliningrad Region, the sown area of winter crops is 88.8 thousand hectares, which is 3 thousand hectares more than a year earlier.

Winter rapeseed, the key oilseed crop of the region, has been sown on an area of more than 44.6 thousand hectares. An increase to the level of the previous year is 1.6 thousand hectares.

“Last year, the farms of the region made a good start to the harvest of 2022, which will allow maintaining the positive dynamics of agricultural production,” said Natalia Shevtsova, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Region, Minister of Agriculture.

Winter crops are more productive forms of agricultural crops, traditionally occupy the largest share in the structure of the sown area.

Recall that the 2021 harvesting campaign in the Kaliningrad region ended with new records. The historical maximum was reached in the harvesting of oilseeds. Their gross harvest amounted to 160 thousand tons in weight after completion, which is 5% higher than the record harvest for the region in 2020. According to preliminary data, grain in the region was threshed 706 thousand tons in weight after refinement. And although the gross grain harvest turned out to be 2% lower than in 2020, this is also one of the best indicators in the history of the region.
