Epizootic situation on especially dangerous animal diseases in the world from October 9 to October 15, 2021

For the period from 9 to 15 October 2021, the World Organization for Animal HEALTH (OIE) received reports of the registration of 112 foci of especially dangerous animal diseases in 13 countries of the world. The corresponding notifications were published on the official website of the OIE.

The German Veterinary Services reported one case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in cattle. As part of the German targeted disease surveillance system, biomaterial from a 14-year-old cow was tested in the regional laboratory of Bavaria and the Friedrich-Leffler Institute. Previously, BSE was registered in the country in February 2014. German veterinarians also reported West Nile fever (18 foci) detected in horses and in populations of synanthropic and zoo birds in the lands of Brandenburg, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt.

African swine fever outbreaks continue to be recorded in Hungary (4 outbreaks), Latvia (7), Poland (30), Romania (34), South Africa (4) and SOUTH KOREA (1).

Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been registered in Kazakhstan (1) and Estonia (2). The disease caused by viruses of the H5N8 and H5 subtypes has been noted in agricultural birds and wild birds.

Foci of infectious nodular dermatitis have been recorded in Cambodia (4). Classical swine fever has been reported in Brazil (1). Plague of small ruminants - in Morocco (1). On the territory of South Africa (3), foot-and-mouth disease types SAT-2 and SAT-3 have been noted. A new case of CORONAVIRUS infection covid-19 (SARS-COV-2) has been registered in Japan. The disease was diagnosed in a companion dog.
