The Chelyabinsk Region government hosted talks between the regional Ministry of Agriculture and representatives of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on expanding cooperation in food exports and imports. The meeting was held via videoconference at the initiative of the Vietnamese side.
The Southern Urals were represented by Inna Podshivalova, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Chelyabinsk Region, and heads of food enterprises, while Vietnam was represented by Nguyen Mai Huong, Consul General of the Republic in Yekaterinburg, and heads of Vietnamese companies.
"The goal of the conference is to help businesses from both countries better understand each other's markets, increase the number of companies exporting agricultural products, and thereby expand agricultural trade cooperation between Vietnam and the Chelyabinsk Region. In recent years, EXPORT volumes between Vietnam and the Chelyabinsk Region have increased. Vietnam exports vegetables, fruits , processed foods, tea, and spices to the Chelyabinsk Region. The Chelyabinsk Region exports animal fats, vegetable oil , wheat, cereals, and FLOUR to Vietnam. "We have great potential; Vietnam can export other products to the Chelyabinsk region, such as seafood, tea, rice, confectionery, and cereals. The agricultural commodity structure of the two countries does not compete, but rather complements one another. Our countries can take advantage of the free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union, including RUSSIA. The strong support and effective assistance from the government of the Chelyabinsk region is of great importance," said Consul General Nguyen Mai Huong.
"The region is a leader in the production of durum wheat, pasta, flour, cereals, and chicken eggs. Grain production exceeds two million tons, specializing in durum wheat, and oilseed production is growing. In livestock farming, the region specializes in poultry and pork production. On average, we produce approximately 400,000 tons of all types of MEAT annually. The Chelyabinsk Region ranks first in Russia for pasta production, second for flour production, and third for cereals. More than 600 food processing enterprises operate in the Chelyabinsk Region. Our region is a key exporter of agricultural products in the Urals Federal District. We export to approximately 40 countries. We supply 95 types of products: wheat, barley, flour, pasta, sunflower oil, margarine, confectionery, sausages , and beverages."Ice cream . The region has high potential for developing agricultural exports to Vietnam," noted Inna Podshivalova, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Chelyabinsk Region.
The Chelyabinsk Region was also welcomed by Mac Quoc Anh, HEAD of the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises. The association unites 11,000 enterprises that are ready not only to import Russian products and supply their goods to Russia but also to organize supply logistics and find buyers for Chelyabinsk products.
Dang Huong, Head of the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association, spoke about the Vietnamese organic agriculture market. The association currently exports coconuts, rice, anise, tea, and shrimp. The main consumer demand for these products is in three large cities of Vietnam – Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City – and is worth 500 billion dong ( US $19 million ) per year. Exports amount to 300,000 tons per year (2023 figures), with more than 200 exporting organizations, although shipments to Russia are still small.
Representatives of 14 South Ural food companies presented their products to their Vietnamese counterparts. Soyuzpischeprom already sells vegetable oil and pasta in Vietnam and is ready to expand its exports to plant-based drinks and breakfast cereals. Makfa JSC also supplies pasta and flour to Vietnam and is ready to expand its exports there. Sitno offers flour, pasta, and confectionery products to Vietnamese consumers.
The following enterprises are ready to supply and expand supplies to Vietnam: Chebarkulskaya Ptitsa (Bioresurs humic acid-based fertilizer), Ariant ( pork , semi-finished products), Prodholding (fat and oil products , dry mixes), Vkusnoyel (ready-to-eat food in retort pouches), Raduga (pet food), Khlebprom (healthy food – whole grain bread), Ozersky Distillery (strongALCOHOL ).
