More than half a million hectares of spring crops were sown by farmers of the Saratov region

“The pace of spring field work in the Saratov region is significantly higher than last year. By May 2, the sowing of spring crops was carried out on an area of ​​543 thousand hectares, while for the same period in 2022, 200 thousand hectares were sown. We sow from 65,000 to 75,000 hectares a day,” said Dmitry Upolovnikov, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the region.
In the group of spring cereals, 404 thousand hectares were sown (as of the same date in 2022 - 142 thousand hectares).
152 thousand hectares were sown with spring wheat, including 69 thousand hectares of durum wheat. Agrarians of eight districts - Kalininsky, Petrovsky, Novoburassky, Engelssky, Gagarinsky, Ivanteevsky, Pugachevsky - have completed wheat sowing.
Sowing of barley was completed in Gagarinsky, Rivne, Engels and Tatishchevsky municipal districts. A total of 164 thousand hectares have been sown.
Leguminous crops were sown on 58 thousand hectares: chickpeas - 19 thousand hectares, lentils - 27 thousand hectares, peas - 11 thousand hectares. Corn has been sown on an area of ​​9.4 thousand hectares.
127 thousand hectares were sown under industrial crops (in 2022, this figure was 41.2 thousand).
In addition, sowing of sunflower (67,000 ha), SUGAR beet (5.7 ha), and spring fodder crops (7,000 ha) continues.
Vegetable growers of the region planted 1.9 thousand hectares of potatoes and 2.1 thousand hectares of onions, carrots, beets and other early vegetables.
Horticulturists of the Khvalynsky, Saratov, Marksovsky districts are laying orchards and fruit nurseries. 73 hectares have been planted, including 36 hectares of nursery and 35 hectares of intensive gardens.
