On Friday, October 15, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of Dagestan, Battal Battalov, visited the Kizlyar region, where he got acquainted with the progress of rice harvesting. Together with the HEAD of the municipality, Akim Mikirov, he visited one of the largest rice producers in the republic, Marenovsky LLC.
According to the head of the enterprise, Magomedamir Omarov, in 2021, an area of 1.4 thousand hectares is allocated for rice on the farm. Due to heavy rains in the region, part of the crops were killed.
At present, the enterprise has purchased and put into operation additional drying equipment, thanks to which the harvested rice can be quickly dried and sent for processing. In addition, the farm has its own granary, and the installation of a rice processing plant with modern equipment is also at the final stage. Magomedamir Omarov expects to launch it before the end of this month.
Battal Battalov got acquainted with the process of harvesting, drying and packing rice at Marenovsky LLC. He also inspected the premises of the processing plant under construction.
The minister recalled that prolonged heavy rainfall forced farmers to adjust the rice harvesting schedule. Part of the crop was lost due to rains, but additional harvesting equipment, including those on a caterpillar basis, has now been brought in. In general, following the results of the harvesting campaign, the gross rice harvest in the republic is forecasted at the level of 2020, when about 111 thousand tons of rice were harvested, which was a record in the history of rice cultivation in the republic.
“The main areas under rice in Dagestan are concentrated in the Kizlyar region - about 15 thousand hectares. Of these, 5 thousand hectares have been harvested to date. With the normalization of weather conditions, rice harvesting resumed, and now farmers in the municipality are harvesting rice from an area of 500 hectares every day. Additional agricultural machinery has been brought in - in total, more than 60 rice harvesters are now operating in the region, about 50 of which are on a caterpillar basis. An operational headquarters has been created in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan, which coordinates the work on harvesting rice in the republic,” said Battal Battalov.
According to Akim Mikirov, rice harvesting in the Kizlyar region is planned to be completed by November 20.
