Battal Battalov got acquainted with the wintering of cattle and the state of pastures in the north of Dagestan

On Friday, January 7, Acting Minister of Agriculture and Food of Dagestan Battal Battalov got acquainted with the state of pastures in the northern zone of the republic and the course of wintering of livestock on the lands of transhumance. On the trip, he was accompanied by the head of the Republican Department of Transhumant Animal Husbandry Nabi Abdulgamidov and employees of the institution.

The delegation headed by Battal Battalov visited the wintering grounds for livestock of Lutkunsky farm, Bereket farm, Falfan farm, Voskhod farm in Akhtynsky district, Stimul farm in Kizilyurt district and Kara-Karaeva farm in Levashinsky district.

About 450 ewes of the Lezghin and Edilbaev breeds of the MRS are kept in the Lutkunsky farm. For all of them, food is prepared in the required volume. In order to improve the herbage, the management of the farm plans to plant juzgun on these lands, which will help fix the sands.

In addition, early lambing began in SPK Lutkunsky in December. It is practiced in a number of farms, and at the moment the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan assessed its results as good.

“There was an early lambing in some farms. I am glad that for 100 ewes, livestock breeders get more than 95 lambs. This is a very good result, with some farms planning to produce 100 lambs from 100 ewes. Wintering is stable, and I think that this year we will get a fairly high offspring,” said Battal Battalov.

In SPK "Voskhod" in 2020, a juzgun was planted on an area of about 330 hectares. The Acting Minister drew attention to the fact that over the year it has grown significantly and is already giving real results, preventing the movement of sands. Battal Battalov noted that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Dagestan plans to continue to carry out phytomeliorative work in the north of the republic, expanding the area under plantings of juzgun and other crops.

“Here we see a dzhuzgun already a meter high, although the planting material was about 30-40 cm. This plant prevents the movement of sands, which we see in practice. Every year we plant juzgun on an area of more than 4 thousand hectares to fix the sands, and we will continue to do this in the future. This gives a result, but it is necessary to cover large areas - at least 10-15 thousand hectares every year. We have such plans, we intend to expand the area and, thereby, improve the condition of our pastures, on which the development of animal husbandry depends,” the Acting Minister said.

Battal Battalov got acquainted with the content of about 1,300 ewes of the Dagestan mountain breed MRS in the Kara-Karaeva farm, and about 700 ewes in the Stimul farm. The latter has also begun early lambing and the farm manager expects to have at least 90 lambs for every 100 ewes.

In addition, on the lands of distant pastures, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan, together with specialists, checked the amount of moisture contained in the soil and made sure that it was in sufficient volume.
Battal Battalov noted that the wintering of cattle in the north of Dagestan is taking place as usual. Compared to last year, there is abundant herbage on the lands of distant pastures; pastures have managed to recover from last year. Also, in general, the farms prepared forage in the required volumes.

“The state of pastures is much better compared to last year. This year the herbage is good, so we can say that wintering will be stable. I would like the livestock breeders to still stock up on fodder and not allow the situation of last year, when, due to the drying winds, there was no grassland on a significant part of the pastures, and they did not stock up on fodder in sufficient quantities, ”added the Acting Minister.
