Norway has joined the EU sanctions against RUSSIA under a pretext bordering on paranoia. This was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova , an RBC correspondent reports.
The diplomat recalled that Oslo explained its decision by the fact that Russian fishing companies “participate in intelligence activities, <...> aimed at critical infrastructure in the maritime areas of Norway and NATO allies.” Zakharova emphasized that no evidence was provided for such statements.
“It can only be described as a manifestation of paranoia,” she noted.
Zakharova emphasized that no evidence was presented for such statements.
On July 29, Russia handed Norway's Chargé d'Affaires Ragnhild Johansen a protest note over sanctions against fishing companies: Norebo and Murman Seafood will no longer be able to fish in Norwegian waters. This is contrary to the 1976 agreement on mutual relations in the field of fisheries, the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
The Norwegian government decided to include these companies in the sanctions list on July 7. Since that day, their assets have been frozen and their vessels are prohibited from accessing Norwegian ports and territorial waters.
