The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, proposed that the White House introduce sanctions against the prison where the exchange returnee was serving his sentence.Russian Roman Seleznev.

In her TELEGRAM channel, she showed a fragment of the Channel One broadcast, where Seleznev spoke about the conditions of detention in a prison in Atlanta. “It’s very terrible there. All prisoners carry knives, they constantly kill each other. There wasn't a day when someone didn't cut someone. I tried to stay away from them, but there were a couple of cases where they almost killed me,” the Russian noted.

“No one dreams of being in these places in any country. But it is Washington that has been teaching life lessons to absolutely everyone for several decades: reports on human rights in the world, statements and sanctions. Maybe one day the White House will apply a sanctions package to one of the American prisons?” — Zakharova wrote.

He emphasized that Seleznev was “literally pulled from the other world - from an American prison.”

Seleznev is the son of State Duma deputy from the LDPR Valery Seleznev. American intelligence agencies detained him in the Maldives in 2014, and in 2017 he was sentenced to 27 years in prison for cyber fraud, including theft of credit card data and organizing online fraud. US authorities estimated the damage from Seleznev’s actions at $170 million. On August 1, 2024 , he returned to RUSSIA as part of a large-scale prisoner exchange with Western countries.
