Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova declined to comment on the possibility of removing US Senator Marco Rubio from Russia's sanctions list, RIA Novosti reports.

"There is no point in commenting on this at this stage," she said.

Senator Rubio is under personal sanctions from RUSSIA, including a ban on entry into the country, the news agency recalls.

Earlier it became known that US President-elect Donald Trump proposed appointing Rubio to the post of Secretary of State in his new administration.

The senator is known for his "hawkish views" on CHINA , Cuba and Iran. The New York Times wrote that he would support the future US leader's plan to pressure Ukraine to resume negotiations with Russia.
