In the last full day before the ban on cars registered in RUSSIA entering Finland, 134 cars with Russian license plates crossed the border.
The Federal Customs Service reported this on its TELEGRAM channel.
“Over the last 24 hours (from 8:00 on September 14 to 8:00 on September 15), 546 passenger vehicles passed through the automobile checkpoints of the Vyborg customs in the direction of leaving the Russian Federation. Of these, 134 are registered in the Russian Federation,” the Federal Customs Service reported, citing data from the Vyborg Customs.
On the morning of September 15, the Finnish Foreign Ministry announced the introduction of a ban on the entry of cars with Russian license plates. it will take effect from midnight on September 16, 2023.
The agency stated that only EU citizens permanently residing in Russia, or members of their families, as well as diplomats will be able to enter the country in a car registered in Russia. In addition, the restriction does not apply to cases where entry is necessary for humanitarian reasons.
Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen clarified that all cars with Russian license plates must leave Finland by March 16, 2024.
She explained that even those who permanently reside in Finland do not have the right to use cars registered in Russia. The possibility of their confiscation is not considered.
