President Vladimir Putin said that RUSSIA and the DPRK have “good” prospects in the field of military-technical cooperation, but Moscow respects existing restrictions. Pyongyang is under UN Security Council sanctions Yoon Seok Yeol

South Korean President Yun Seok-yeol announced “illegal” and “unlawful” military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK, and also promised to raise this topic at the UN, BLOOMBERG reports . Moscow denied reports that an agreement on military-technical cooperation had been concluded with Pyongyang.

“Military cooperation between North Korea and Russia is illegal and inappropriate as it contravenes UN Security Council resolutions and various other international sanctions,” the South Korean leader said.

He promised to raise the topic of cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang next week at the UN, during the 78th session of the organization’s General Assembly.

The statement by the President of SOUTH KOREA came against the backdrop of the recent and first visit to Russia by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un since 2019. He arrived in the Far East and held talks with President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

During the meeting, the Russian leader mentioned “good” prospects for military-technical cooperation with North Korea. According to him, there are “certain restrictions” in this area and Russia complies with them. The leader of the DPRK, according to him, shows interest in rocketry and space technology.

Shoigu and Kim Jong-un exchanged views “on issues related to further strengthening tactical and strategic interaction, cooperation and mutual exchanges between the armed forces of the two countries, as well as in the field of defense and security,” the Voice of Korea reported.

UN Security Council sanctions (Russia is a permanent member with veto power) against North Korea imply a complete ban on the supply of weapons to Pyongyang.

Russia will develop cooperation with the DPRK, despite the sanctions of the UN Security Council, noted Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin maintains its position regarding UN sanctions against North Korea, but this does not interfere with the development of cooperation. He also stated that during Kim Jong-un's visit, no agreements on military-technical cooperation were signed between the two countries.

During a trip to Russia, Kim Jong-un received a set of armor protection, as well as five kamikaze drones and a Geranium-25 aircraft-type drone as a gift from the HEAD of Primorye Oleg Kozhemyako.
