According to lawyer Eric Ferrari, RUSSIA is currently in the most favorable political environment for lifting sanctions. He spoke about this on RBC Radio.

The US administration may show some flexibility regarding Russia and the sanctions currently in place, said Eric Ferrari, founder of the Ferrari & Associates law firm and a lawyer specializing in US sanctions relief, on RBC Radio.

Speaking about the process of lifting sanctions, Ferrari noted the need to take into account two important aspects: legal and political.

"The administration is now generally more open and flexible on sanctions, although this depends on the specific program. There may be some flexibility with regard to Russia," he said.

In his opinion, "Russian affairs currently enjoy a more favorable political environment." However, Ferrari noted that "everything depends on the priorities of a particular administration."

"So, of the three countries you mentioned, Russia is currently in the most favorable environment, followed by Iran, and Venezuela in last place," the lawyer replied.

As he explained, the complexity of the situation for Iran is linked to the fight against terrorism, as such situations are difficult to challenge politically. "Under the previous administration, the situation with Venezuela was more flexible: more opportunities opened up, the political environment was more favorable. Now, however, the political environment is extremely unfavorable for Venezuelan affairs," Ferrari emphasized.

When asked whether Russian businessmen and companies would ever be able to regain access to their frozen assets, the lawyer answered in the affirmative.

Eric Ferrari, founder of Ferrari & Associates, has been representing clients in US courts for over 20 years in sanctions relief matters. His clients include IBS co-founder Anatoly Karachinsky, former Sovcombank president Ilya Brodsky, and former Sovcombank deputy chairman Alexey Panferov, all of whom were removed from the SDN. He also works with clients from Iran, Venezuela, Turkey, the UAE, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

At the end of February 2025, US President Donald Trump extended a number of sanctions against Russia for one year. These include US restrictions imposed in 2014, 2018, and 2022 due to the situation in Ukraine .

AgencyBLOOMBERG , citing sources, reported that the US is preparing a new package of sanctions against the Russian energy sector. According to the publication, the measures are aimed at increasing pressure on Moscow in the event of a rejection of the peace agreement with Ukraine.

On October 22, the United States imposed sanctions against Rosneft and LUKOIL. According to the US, the reason for this was "Russia's lack of serious interest in the peace process."

Russia views Western sanctions negatively. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov pointed out that the country's economy has long been operating under numerous restrictions, which has allowed it to develop a "certain immunity" to them. Commenting on the new American sanctions , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called them counterproductive and not likely to create significant difficulties for Moscow.
