The Nord yacht, which is likely owned by the sanctioned Severstal shareholder Mordashov, is heading to Vladivostok. The vessel did not turn on the transponder for eight months, and in June it gave a signal from the Indian Ocean Yacht Nord

The yacht Nord, which may be owned by Russian businessman Alexei Mordashov (fifth place in the Russian FORBES rating , worth almost $ 21 billion, owner of Severstal), is heading to Vladivostok after more than a year of sailing, writes BLOOMBERG . A source close to Mordashov confirmed to RBC that the ship belongs to him.

The yacht turned off its transponder on October 26 last year, until June 12 its whereabouts were unknown. On that day, she signaled near Indonesia in the Indian Ocean, and on June 25, the captain indicated Vladivostok as the port of destination. Nord is already in the Sea of Japan.

The $500 million yacht Nord was built at the German shipyard Lurssen and launched in 2021. It is 142 meters long and over 22 meters wide. Nord is Lurssen's eighth largest yacht and the 15th largest in the world, writes SuperYachtTimes. According to Bloomberg, she has 20 luxurious cabins and two helipads on board.

The yacht's last known destination before the transponder went off was Cape Town, but the city authorities forbade her from entering the port. Prior to this, Nord was stationed in Hong Kong, where they saw no reason to detain the vessel and other Russian assets. Hong Kong has refused to comply with sanctions imposed by anyone other than the UN.

Mordashov has been under both EU and US restrictions since last year. Commenting on the inclusion in the European sanctions list, the businessman noted that he is “far from politics”, has “nothing to do with the current geopolitical tensions” and therefore does not understand why sanctions were imposed against him.

Among the consequences of getting into the sanctions lists for Russian businessmen is the detention of yachts allegedly belonging to them abroad. Among these ships is the Dilbar yacht, which the German authorities associated with Alisher Usmanov (eighth place in the Russian Forbes rating, its fortune, according to its data, is $ 14.4 billion, among the assets are Metalloinvest and MegaFon); the Tango yacht, owned, according to the United States, by Viktor Vekselberg (worth $6.8 billion according to Forbes, one of the assets is UC Rusal) and others.
