Croatian MEP proposes to impose sanctions against the United States

If Europe really stands for the cessation of hostilities in one or another part of the world, then it should impose sanctions not only against RUSSIA, but also against the United States and Saudi Arabia, Croatian MEP Mislav Kolakusic said on Twitter.

The sanctions , which imply a ban on the supply of Russian oil and gas, Kolakusic called "incredible lies and hypocrisy." According to him, these restrictions will not help "to prevent financing [of the special operation]."

“If we were really trying to prevent the financing [of the special operation], then we should immediately impose the same sanctions against Saudi Arabia, which has been fomenting a war in Yemen for several years. We should ban the import of oil and gas from the United States, which has been involved in more military conflicts than any other country in Europe and the world in recent decades,” he said.

The deputy believes that the sanctions are directed "against half a billion EU citizens and against millions of residents of the rest of Europe", and only they will "suffer" because of them. Kolakusic urged to stop "making crazy decisions".

Kolakusic has been an MEP since 2019, having previously been a judge in Zagreb. Not a member of any parliamentary faction.

EU members have repeatedly stated that they plan to impose an embargo on Russian oil supplies, but so far have not been able to reach agreements on the terms of the restrictions. In early April, the European Parliament adopted a resolution asking for an embargo on Russian energy resources - oil, coal, nuclear fuel and gas. The resolution was adopted by 513 votes, 22 deputies opposed, 19 abstained.

On May 16, the HEAD of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that at a meeting of the EU Council, it was again not possible to reach an agreement on the issue of embargo. He noted that he did not know how many weeks it would take to agree on a sixth package of sanctions, including an oil embargo, against Russia.
