The Russian airline Volga-Dnepr sued the Canadian government in November , asking that sanctions against it be invalidated, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing the lawsuit.

According to the publication, in the lawsuit the company insists that it was included in the sanctions list erroneously, since it was not involved in the military operation and did not provide services to the Wagner PMC, as the Canadian authorities claimed . CANADA imposed sanctions against Volga-Dnepr in April.

The airline did not respond to WSJ's request, and Canada's Foreign Ministry declined to comment. RBC sent a request to the press service of the Volga-Dnepr Group of Companies.

An An-124 aircraft belonging to Volga-Dnepr has been in Toronto since February 27, 2022. The ship was carrying out a humanitarian flight from CHINA , but after unloading it was not allowed to leave the country due to the closure of Canadian skies to Russian aircraft on the same day.

After visiting Canada last spring, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that the Volga-Dnepr airline plane located in Toronto could be transferred to Ukraine . In June, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that the plane would be confiscated and transferred to the ownership of Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry called Canada’s decision “cynical theft.”

In August, Volga-Dnepr sent an official notice to the Canadian government in which it proposed to resolve the dispute over the seizure of the An-124. If this does not happen within six months, the company promised to go to arbitration COURT.
