Elena Vyalbe, President of the Russian Cross-Country Skiing Federation (RLSCF), ignores Ukraine's inclusion on the sanctions list.
“I don’t care,” Vyalbe told TASS .
Earlier, on April 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy imposed sanctions on Russian cultural and sports figures, including Vyalbe. According to the presidential decree, they will be stripped of their Ukrainian state awards, banned from distributing media in the country, have their trade operations restricted, and have their assets frozen. The duration of the sanctions is specified in the appendix to the law: indefinitely, for ten years.
At the end of February, Vyalbe was included in Canada's sanctions list.
Earlier in 2024 , Vyalbe said she was ready to "go partisan" for Vladimir Putin, called Yelena Isinbayeva a traitor, and spoke out against skiers participating in international tournaments as neutrals.
FLGR Vyalbe has been heading since 2010.
