By mid-July, only six EU states were actively involved in the blocking of Russian accounts (there are 27 countries in the EU), European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders said in an interview with BLOOMBERG. He pointed out that France, together with five countries - Germany, Austria, Ireland, Luxembourg and Belgium, blocked € 12.7 billion. This is comparable to the total amount of blocked Russian accounts by all European countries - € 13.9 billion, the European Commissioner emphasized.
Reynders noted that a task force set up by the European Union in March to search for and freeze Russian assets helped improve coordination on this issue, due to which there was a “significant increase” in the number of assets frozen in a number of countries.
