The authorities have found an alternative way to pay for the transit of goods to Kaliningrad

A payment option for the transit of goods to the Kaliningrad region, an alternative to the Lithuanian bank Shaul, has been found. This was stated in the press service of the regional government, reports TASS.

“An alternative payment option for Lithuania has been found, and many companies are already using it,” the regional government said.

At the same time, the authorities of the Kaliningrad region did not specify the details of the payment scheme.

On August 15, the Lithuanian Siauliai Bank, which made payments as part of the transit service to Kaliningrad, stopped accepting transactions in rubles. In addition, from September the bank plans to stop making payments to RUSSIA and Belarus in any currency.

The Kremlin expressed the hope that the problems that may arise during transit can be resolved through dialogue. If Russia stumbles upon a “blank wall of misunderstanding”, “other measures” will be required, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov noted back in July.

In July, the Lithuanian authorities restricted rail transit of sanctioned goods to the Kaliningrad region. Russia called this decision illegal and promised retaliatory measures. Subsequently, the European Commission clarified the terms of the sanctions, allowing transit by rail, but under the control of Lithuania. In addition, the EC has set limits on the transit of sanctioned goods, said Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis. On August 9, the HEAD of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, said that the region had exhausted quotas for some products.
