The US will impose sanctions against Sberbank and VTB if Russia “continues to invade” Ukraine. A high-ranking representative of the US administration told reporters about this, reports REUTERS.

He urged members of the Russian elites, who were not included in the sanctions list published on Tuesday, to be on the lookout. The official added that Washington and its partners are ready to impose a package of export restrictions in the event of a full-scale invasion.

The possible imposition of sanctions against VTB and Sberbank in the event of further escalation, also citing a source, was reported by BLOOMBERG. The interlocutor of the publication said that in the event of an “invasion”, not a single financial institution in Russia would be safe.

The representative of the authorities also said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would not be launched and $11 billion was wasted on it, TASS reports.
