Tokyo promised to continue the policy of sanctions against Russia

Yoshimasa Hayashi

The Japanese authorities intend to introduce new tough sanctions against RUSSIA in the future, said the country's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi. The broadcast is available on the Japanese government website.

“Japan will continue to impose tough sanctions against Russia and provide significant support to Ukraine,” he said.

Hayashi also emphasized that the Japanese side regularly maintains contacts with American colleagues and continues to monitor the situation in Ukraine .

Japan began imposing sanctions against Russia in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea. Subsequently, the Japanese authorities repeatedly tightened restrictions and introduced new ones.

Thus, in March 2024 , Japan introduced new EXPORT sanctions against 36 Russian organizations. In particular, the Kalashnikov, Almaz-Antey, Uralvagonzavod, as well as Atomflot and OSK concerns were subject to restrictions.

Moscow considers anti-Russian sanctions illegal and condemns arms supplies to Ukraine. Russia imposed retaliatory sanctions against Japanese citizens. Members of Japan's lower house of parliament Kishida, Matsuno, Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki and other politicians were banned from entering the country. The supply of weapons to Ukraine will not change the course of the special operation, the Kremlin has repeatedly emphasized.
