The IMF suggested looking for a Russian letter to describe the crisis due to COVID

The trajectories of the development of economic crises and the way out of them are often described in Latin letters, for example, V or L.This time, the IMF suggested looking for a suitable sign in the "wilds of the Russian alphabet"

The trajectory of the development of the global economy after the crisis caused by the pandemic will be so non-linear that only the letters of the Russian alphabet can be used to describe it, said Antonio Spilimbergo, Deputy Director of the IMF Research Department. According to him, this is a unique recession, and it's not just about its scale.

Spilimbergo spoke about this at the International Exchange Forum, which takes place online on November 2-3 in Moscow. The broadcast was conducted on the forum's YouTube channel.

“It [the recession] is really weird. Remembering the Russian language, it is worth talking not about the letters of the Latin alphabet, but about some kind of W-shaped recovery curve, if you use Russian letters, ”he said.

Spilimbergo advised looking for a suitable form of the recovery curve "in the wilds of the Russian alphabet."
