The Foreign Ministry said that the sanctions of the West are "out of touch with reality"

The sanctions of Western countries against RUSSIA do not correspond to reality, Dmitry Birichevsky, DIRECTOR of the Department of Economic Cooperation of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“Calls continue to be heard in the EU for further escalation of sanctions pressure on Russia. Such a policy of the West is based on logic that is completely divorced from reality,” he said.

Birichevsky recalled that in Russia the EU sanctions are considered illegitimate. They undermine the foundations of international law and contradict the interests of the EU, the diplomat said.

In his opinion, sanctions lead to a break in trade and production chains and cause enormous damage to citizens of the EU countries. In addition, in the context of global economic instability after the CORONAVIRUS pandemic, restrictive measures are especially counterproductive, Birichny considered.
