The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called Hungary's position on Russian gas unfriendly

Budapest has previously announced its readiness to pay for Russian gas in rubles. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called this position unfriendly and contrary to the consolidated position of the EU

Kyiv considers unfriendly the position of Hungary, which has declared its readiness to pay for Russian gas in rubles, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said, UNIAN reports.

He pointed out that Moscow is trying to convert payments for gas into the national currency in order to “rescue” the economy against the backdrop of sanctions and have the resources to continue the operation in Ukraine.

“In this context, we consider the statement about the readiness to pay for Russian gas in rubles as an unfriendly position towards our state. Such statements also contradict the consolidated position of the European Union, which has fundamentally refused to satisfy the Russian whim,” Nikolenko stressed.

The fact that Budapest is ready to pay for Russian gas in rubles was announced the day before by Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Prior to this, Russian Ambassador to Hungary Yevgeny Stanislavov reported that the Hungarian energy company MVM and Gazprom were negotiating the transfer of gas payments into rubles.
