Canadian Foreign Ministry called Russia's sanctions unreasonable

Russian sanctions against nine Canadian officials are unacceptable. This was stated by the Canadian Foreign Ministry, reports TASS.

Russia's sanctions against Canadian citizens, including members of the government, are unacceptable and unfounded.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Canada supports those included in the Russian sanctions list "and will continue to work with partners in defense of democracy." The Foreign Office added that the Canadian authorities were concerned about the deteriorating human rights situation in Russia.

Russia has blacklisted nine Canadian officials and banned them from entering the country in response to Canadian sanctions over the case of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The Russian sanctions hit, in particular, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada David Lametti, the head of the Canadian Federal Prison Service Ann Kelly and Rear Admiral, head of the intelligence department of the Canadian Armed Forces Scott Bishop.
