Kazakhstan vows not to help Russia circumvent sanctions

Kazakhstan will comply with the sanctions imposed against Russia , Timur Suleimenov, presidential aide, said in an interview with Euractiv.

“Kazakhstan will not be a tool to circumvent US and EU sanctions,” he promised. “Although we are part of an economic union with Russia and Belarus, we are also part of the international community.”

According to Suleimenov, the last thing Kazakhstan wants is to be subject to secondary sanctions.

The presidential aide said that one of the British parliamentarians spoke about the need for sanctions against Kazakhstan because of its membership in the EAEU. This is probably about Margaret Hodge, after whose statements the British Ambassador was invited to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry for clarification.
